AGP Chicago ???

HI,

Dh will be traveling to Illinois for business in early March (1 & 2?). He will be there two days, but isn't sure how much down time he will have. He will be flying & then rent a car. He will be in Libertyville, which according to Mapquest, is only 48 minutes from AGP! DD & I are trying to convince him to go check it out (and buy her something! ) He HATES city driving & the whole Chicago thing makes him nervous. He drove in Philly & never wants to do that again. I was w/ him & have to say I agree. Guess we are "country folks".

Anyone have any input on getting there, parking, the traffic situation? I think he would be dazed enough just walking in an AGP. Stressful city traffic would not be good.

I would love to take dd, but we live in Va. & driving would take FOREVER (AGPNY or AGPC). We just vacationed in CT last summer & the drive & NJ turnpike were VERY long. Not planning on doing it again anytime soon. She may never make it there. I know she would be amazed if Dad went & brought her back a store exclusive item (any ideas?). Probably all just me wishfully thinking!

I live in a suburb outside of Chicago...Depending on trafic it can be a very easy drive and also a long one. Id say 30 min to over an hour and a half. AGPC is at a great local tho once your there. I was there on a friday night at about 4-5 last week and it was near empty. It was heaven(and also very surprising). If you want more info just PM me [img]smile.gif[/img]

Libertyville is pretty far away from downtown Chicago. We used to live in that area and hated the traffic. We now live in Wisconsin where there is much less traffic and take the train into Chicago. Last time I went to Chicago to go to AGP, parking for the evening (we had dinner in the Cafe) was $20 in a nearby parking structure. I am not sure how much your DH would get out of the experience unless he had other things to do downtown. There are many great attractions very close to AGP like the art museum, etc. It is a great city except for the traffic.

AGPC is only an hour and 19 minute train ride away from me, but sadly, it ends up being so close but so far away like you said. It is not really cheaper going there for me because the sales tax in Chicago is pretty high - around 8%???I don't remember exactly but sales tax in Wisconsin is 5% and Chicago's is quite a bit higher.

It is really just a very special occasion place for us. It is a fantastic experience to go there and see every thing, but your DH probably wouldn't appreciate it as much as you and your DD would. And, he really wouldn't be saving any money by the time he paid for parking, gas and sales tax.
